What is Lymphatic drainage Massage?

Lymphatic drainage is the manual stimulation of the interstitial fluids of the body, to built- up wasted and excessive fluid to the blood so that the organs can deal with it.

Why is deep pressure avoided during lymphatic drainage massage?

Any deep tissue pressure applied to swelling is likely to produce more swelling and tissue damage. In order to relieve swelling in the body via lymphatic drainage, we take extra interstitial fluid within the tissues and encourage this fluid to enter the lymphatic system. The lymphatic capillaries that collect this fluid are minuscule. If you apply too much pressure they will simply collapse and not collect any fluid.

How much pressure is in manual lymphatic drainage?

Lymphatic drainage uses a specific amount of pressure. Its light pressure and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow. We ask therapists to use some common sense in realizing that applying moderate to deep pressure to swollen tissues is NOT helping our clients or you. Deep tissue techniques are NOT, and will never will be appropriate lymphatic drainage massage techniques.

How often should I get Lymphatic Drainage?

To maximise the results of Lymphatic Drainage, it is recommended to have around 1 treatment per month. There is no limit on frequency as Lymphatic Drainage is a light pressure treatment.
